We have been getting ready to take a short trip during Spring Break. One of the first things I saw my children doing was sitting down and trying to figure out what books they were going to take on the trip. That is not the only "weirdness." Check out what kind of books they are taking.
American Idioms and Phrases
Oxford Dictionary of Catch Phrases
Twelfth Night (Shakespeare) - Artax wants to read out loud with Ladybug
As You Like It (Shakespeare)
Alice's Adventures Through Wonderland
It is catching. I am taking the "Picture of Dorian Gray." Come on, who would take books on a vacation! It gets worse than that. One, if not the biggest, book stores is located in the city we are traveling to. Guess which stop was the first one put on our list to see. You got it! The bookstore. Homeschoolers are truly a strange breed.
I just printed out our list of books last night. 640 books! The worst part is that we probably have another 100 in boxes around the house that have not made it to our list yet. So why do I print a list of books to take with us? Because I have this nasty habit of buying the same books over and over again. I can't remember what it is called, but one of our friends has a saying for that practice. Well, that's it for now. Hopefully this trip will inspire me with some unique stories to tell.

My Life is Boring
Well, I guess it is official then. I lead a simple, boring, mediocre life. It has been one month since my last ---- oops! Wrong thought. It has been one month since I last posted. I am just not cut out to be a blogger I guess. It can be really depressing to sit down and try and think of something interesting in your life to blog about .... and come up with nothing! What can you expect from an engineer. At least my children have not risen up against me for lack of substance in their lives. I could tell you how one night I was adventuress enough to boil the noodles for an extra minute to see if I could get them soft enough without having them fall apart. But then you would probably never, ever come back to my blog again.
Yesterday I took Artax to the shoe store with size 6 shoes and came away with size 10. What's up with that one! Was he really walking around with his toes curled back under his feet?
I started a class at work this week for leads (looks good on the performance evaluation sheet :). In the class they had six people get up and stand shoulder-to-shoulder facing six other people. They held out their arms and the teacher laid a 12 foot light pole (not a pole with a light but one that didn't weigh very much) across their fingers telling them to lower it to the floor. The kicker is that you need to keep your fingers touching the pole. Immediately the pole started rising into the air as high as their arms could reach. The teacher took the pole off of their fingers and asked them if they understood the directions: down, not up! He put it on their fingers again and it took them 15-20 minutes to get the pole on the floor. It was amazing to watch and the whole idea is to get people to think about how they react with each other in a stressful situation.
So now I know what to do at work if I have people getting stressed out. Have them stand up, hold a pole up with their fingers and lower it to the floor. By the time it gets to the floor they will have forgotten what they were stressed out about. Hey, not a bad idea! I guess I am learning something.
I recently started having Dilbert (the cartoon) sent to me each day. The guy who does this cartoon must work at the same company I do. It is just too amazing how I can totally relate to the stuff he writes. I liked this Sunday's cartoon so much I am going to add it to my blog. Have a good day (or month depending on how long it takes me to have something interesting happen again).
